BB Mobile Corp. (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative: Masayoshi Son; “BB Mobile”), a mobile communications business company in the SOFTBANK Group (“the Group”), announces that it today offered to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (“MIC”) to return the license on the establishment plan of specified base stations using the 1.7GHz frequency bands.
BB Mobile was granted the license on “the establishment plan of specified base stations using 1.7GHz frequency bands” on November 10, 2005. Since then, BB Mobile has been advancing to implement full-scale wireless broadband services as a new entrant in the mobile communications market, representing SOFTBANK Group.
The Group recently took several steps, including the completion of the acquisition of Vodafone K.K. on April 27, 2006, in an attempt to achieve its target: to realize a true ubiquitous society. Considering these changes in situations and assumptions for BB Mobile from those at the time when the license on the establishment plan of specified base stations was granted, BB Mobile has decided to offer MIC to return its “license on the establishment plan of specified base stations”.
The Group will strive to offer innovative new services, leveraging the Group’s strength so that competition among mobile operators can be further facilitated while effectively utilizing spectrum, which is property of the citizens.
