SOFTBANK CORP.’s subsidiary, BB Technologies Corporation. (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, President & CEO: Masayoshi Son, hereinafter “BB Technologies”), which provides and manages ADSL infrastructure as well as undertakes technology development and support, and Yahoo Japan Corporation (Head Office: Minato-ku Tokyo, President: Masahiro Inoue, hereinafter “Yahoo! JAPAN”), operator of Japan’s most frequently accessed web site, Yahoo! JAPAN, have decided to extend by one month the free trial connection service presently being offered for their broadband general service, “Yahoo! BB”. The dedicated broadband portal site will be opened as scheduled on August 1.
Currently the number of formal applications for the Yahoo! BB service exceeds several hundred thousand. Although the companies involved in the project have worked tirelessly, construction work has been affected by various administrative and procedural delays. The extension of the free trial connection service period was decided in consideration of the need for further time to verify thoroughly the quality and operational maintenance of the ADSL service in actual use and other features of the technology. During the trial period, new users able to connect to the service will be able to enjoy free broadband use.
Tests within the Tokyo metropolitan area verified that high-speed service was viable and indicated virtually no problems with ISDN interference or distance.
Present users can therefore continue to enjoy free broadband access as well as new broadband contents provided by Yahoo! BB. Note that some of these contents will carry a charge when the service is fully launched.
We will continue to strive to satisfy the expectations of all our customers using this service.
