Protecting children from harmful information

SOFTBANK MOBILE Corp.

To ensure that children are able use mobile phones safely, SOFTBANK MOBILE is working to maintain filtering services that restrict access to harmful information such as adult sites and dating sites. With Yahoo! Kids service, which allows access to websites designed for children, Web Filtering service and Relaxed Web Filtering service, both of which restricts access to specified websites, users can choose from these three levels of browsing restriction according to age, knowledge, judgment and other factors. In addition, SOFTBANK MOBILE launched an optional service of Relaxed Web Filtering service, Relaxed Web Filtering service Plus, in September 2010 to allow access to some of the widely-used international social network sites.

iPhone users can use filtering services not only in SoftBank 3G environment but also in WiFi communication by installing the Yahoo! Kids app, which displays only those websites that are safe for children, as well as the Yahoo! Safety Net app, which restricts functions of Apple's Safari web browser with 5 levels of filtering. iPad users can set their browser to view only safe-for-children websites by installing the Yahoo Safety Net HD app.

For the safety use of mobile phone, SOFTBANK MOBILE provides explanation on the use of the Internet by the youth and the available filtering services for underage customers and their parents at the time of purchase of mobile phones at shops. In the efforts to enhance over-the-counter communication on the filtering services and to boost customers understanding on the service, SOFTBANK MOBILE has also started since April 1, 2011 to hand out documents to add to the said explanation. The documents describe the risks of the Internet use by the youth, the positive effects and importance the filtering services and filtering services offered by SOFTBANK MOBILE.
