In September 2010, SOFTBANK CORP. and the three telecommunications companies of the SOFTBANK Group established SOFTBANK University, an evolved form of the existing core capability training, aiming to develop personnel who contribute to the realization of the management policy. SOFTBANK University provides not only traditional classroom training but also those programs which are carried out in SOFTBANK's distinctive learning styles utilizing mobile tools and virtual environment, including Next Generation Mobile Learning through PC, iPhone and iPad, online lecture via Ustream and online discussion. SOFTBANK University puts emphasis on diversity and cultivating a workforce that is rich in individuality, thus it provides a system which enables employees to select training subjects that match their personal goals and capabilities rather than a uniform, company-led career development or training system.
Also Internally Certified Instructor (ICI) system has been in place since June 2009 to leverage knowledge and experience of employees to support personnel development. The System certifies those employees with certain levels of skills as an internal instructors and gives them opportunities to provide training drawn from actual experience and to develop higher skills. SOFTBANK CORP. and the three telecommunications companies of the SOFTBANK Group will continue to support employees' growth by providign training incorporating know-how, knowledge and experience of employees.
SOFTBANK CORP. and some companies of the SOFTBANK Group conduct employee satisfaction surveys every year as a way of understanding current conditions and issues that need to be solved to ensure organizational strength and employee motivation, then formulate action plans based on these survey results to drive ongoing improvement activities for better organization.
The three telecommunications companies of the Group set up task teams for each division, which in turn create action plans based on analysis of the actual conditions of their section. Enabling the task teams to perform a central role in improvement activities that are implemented in these three telecommunications companies at every team level helps to ensure higher employee motivation and stronger business performance.

The SOFTBANK Group values a corporate culture in which all employees, regardless of age, gender, nationality or disability, are united with common vision, are able to leverage each other's strengths, communicate freely and pursue innovation, in their efforts toward realization of the management policy. As part of our recruitment criteria, we place a strong emphasis on a candidate's personality, and after hiring, promotion is given based on fair evaluation of responsibilities, performance and capability. In principle, the same criteria are applied for employment of people with special needs, and once employed, they are treated the same as able-bodied employees.
There are people of many different nationalities working at the three telecommunications companies of the SOFTBANK Group. Female employees account for about 30% of the total staff population (average age of 31.4 years old)*2. Many employees have reached a stage in their lives where they want to start raising children, so we are working to develop a system to support these employees. We are also working to further raise the employment rate of people with special needs through ongoing recruitment activities throughout the year.
