The SoftBank Shibuya shop features Sign Language Counter, an in-store sign language center for customers with hearing impairments to inquire about mobile handsets and handle contract procedures with ease. Sign language-proficient staffs are stationed at the counter and provide guidance in sign language on anything from tips related to handset choice, operation, and price plans, through to subscription procedures. Written communication is also available for customers who do not use sign language. In December 2010, Sign Language Support service was also launched to provide guidance in sign language through video conference system by connecting this counter and 15 SoftBank shops.

Priority Discount, a discount service of basic monthly charge, etc., is offered to people with special needs to make full use of mobile phones to enrich their communications and boost their participation in social activities. White Plan Priority Discount was launched in June 2010. The basic monthly charge of the standard White Plan is made free to subscribers of this discount service. The standard domestic charge for Video Call is halved in consideration of hearing impaired customers who frequently use the service to communicate using sign language.

In addition, the SoftBank Shibuya shop provides DVDs to schools for the hearing impaired and related organizations. The DVDs show safe and secured ways of using mobile phone with subtitles and sign language by Sign Language Counter staff.

Offering easy-to-use services for seniors

SoftBank 840Z released in October 2010 is equipped with such functions as one-touch dial, which allows users to call home with one-touch of button, personal alarm and Daily Report Mail, which is automatically sent to the specified address upon the first use of the day. The model is designed for seniors to find it easy to use and also for family member who lives separately from the user to get a peace of mind.

January 2011 saw the release of the PhotoVision SoftBank 003HW, a digital photo frame with a communication function that enables users to easily enjoy photos emailed by mobile phones and other devices. Emailed photos are automatically displayed on the 003HW, without the need for any additional operation. The touch-screen panel features a smart menu, which senior customers can easily operate.

Providing a means of communication in major disasters

SOFTBANK MOBILE Corp.

In the event of earthquake and other disasters, users can post their safety information on “Disaster Message Board” and their friends and family members can check the information through their mobile phones, iPhones, smartphones and PC regardless of telecom operators*1. An automatic notification function is also provided, which forwards safety information posted on the disaster message board to the email addresses of friends and family members registered beforehand.

In addition, mobile handsets are lent free of charge to disaster aid groups that visit disaster-stricken areas. During FY2010, handsets were provided for rescue activities following the Great East Japan Earthquake and during periods of flooding in Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Brazil. SOFTBANK MOBILE also has an agreement with the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Northeastern Army to lend 100 mobile handsets free of charge on an ongoing basis to support rescue work in disasters and its drills.

Providing systems to donate via personal computers and mobile phones

Donations can be made via personal computer or mobile phone to a wide variety of charities using the Yahoo! Volunteer Internet Donation service. The One Click Donation and Charity Shopping donation functions are also available on this site. One Click Donation offers a daily quiz, and by answering the quiz the user donates one yen to support environmental assistance and international cooperation. For purchases made with Charity Shopping, part of the purchase amount is donated to charity groups. In the event of a large disaster, a special page for charity is launched on the top page of Yahoo! JAPAN, calling for public donations.

Donation for disaster assistance on SoftBank Handsets has been invited since January 2010. There are two donation methods: The first is SoftBank Charity Dial, which donates the charges of voice calls to a designated telephone number. The second method is the Digital Content, where mobile phone wallpapers can be purchased, and all proceeds are donated to charity. Also SOFTBANK Simple Donation, an application that allows to make donations quick through iPhone and SoftBank SMARTPHONE, has been available since March 2011.

These systems were used in fiscal 2010 to collect donations at the time of disasters, including the earthquake in Yushu, China, the outbreak of foot-and-mouth diseases in Miyazaki prefecture, the flooding in Pakistan, the torrential rains in China, the heavy rains in Amami Islands, the flooding in Sri Lanka, Australia and Brazil, the earthquake in New Zealand, the eruption of Shinmoedake Volcano, the Great East Japan Earthquake, etc. and provided the affected areas with the goodwill donation.
